What is the Best Age to Start Training a Puppy?

Puppy training is most effective from an early age before problematic behaviors become entrenched. Training a puppy while they are young will also help avoid future fears and phobias. The American Kennel Club echoes the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, suggesting that the average healthy puppy begins puppy training within 7-8 weeks. However, some eager puppies may start learning as early as 6 weeks.

Although starting puppy training as soon as possible is helpful, it does require patience. Since young puppies have wavering attention spans (much like small children), it is best to start with short sessions that are a few minutes at a time and spaced out throughout the day. Short bursts of repetition can help your furry friend understand what you want them to do, and they will catch on much more quickly.

What Kinds of Tricks Can I Teach 6-Week-Old Puppies?

Six-week-old puppies are excited by their external environment and love to explore the various sights, sounds, and smells around them. At this age, many of the tricks they learn will revolve around socialization and obedience. Here are a couple of things small puppies can start learning almost right away:

1. To Recognize Their Name

Teaching a puppy to recognize its name is the basis for further training. You can start teaching them their name by associating it with positive reinforcement, like eye contact, praise, and treats. After all, they cannot follow what you ask them to do if they do not realize they are being addressed.

First, you can start by getting their attention, and when they are focused on you, saying their name. Doing this several times a day and providing positive reinforcement afterward will help condition them to respond and do so eagerly in the future. If they only hear their name in a negative tone or when they are being scolded, they may choose to stop responding.

2. To Use the Potty (Correctly)

Puppies can begin potty training as soon as they are six weeks old. There will undoubtedly be some hits and misses since they are still developing and do not have complete control over their tiny bladders, but this is best taught at a young age. One of the best ways to start potty training your puppy is to have a routine. Whether using a potty pad or simply taking them to the same spot outside every couple of hours, they will soon learn that their crate and the house are not meant for toileting.

However, you can also teach them to start letting you know when they need to go outside. To do this, you can create an association between going outside to potty and another object, such as a bell around the doorknob. Ringing it on your way out to go to the bathroom (and not to play) will help them associate the two items. Pretty soon, they may start trying to ring the bell themselves!

Once your puppy has mastered some simple socialization and house rules and has grown a bit more, it can move on to learning more complex requests with an e-collar

How to Properly Train a Puppy with a Shock Collar?

Learning how to train a puppy properly with an e-collar is critical. However, shock collars can be misunderstood as training tools. When properly used, puppy training becomes easier, and communication between you and your furry friend is enhanced. When puppies are older and ready to learn additional commands and tricks, there are several tips that can make using a shock collar for a puppy safer and more effective:

1. Remember That Puppies Are Like Small Children

Coming home with a tiny fur baby is exciting. However, that excitement can quickly wane when you wake up and unwittingly step into one of their messes. Puppies are like small children, and many do not come already trained.

Learning how to train a puppy takes time, and having the right mindset and attitude are key. Being gentle, patient, and training them with love will help them grow into confident adult dogs.

2. Use Small Shocks as a Last Resort

Many individuals have heard the phrase, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Though that is not true, it is easier when they are younger. Often, a small shock may not even be necessary to get your puppy to comply with your request. For example, INVIROX uses professional collars with 123 training levels, including beeps and vibrations. We also have precautions to help prevent accidental shocks via our security keypad lock. Our safe training e-collar is only used to establish kind communication with your cherished pup.

3. Harness the Power of Repetition

Puppies are quick learners when they have good teachers. Just like babies, they learn through the use of repetition. Using an e-collar and expecting them to know what you want them to do will simply be unproductive. However, once they are repeatedly shown what you want them to do and how to do it, they are excited to please their masters. Soon, they will pick up on what specific words and hand signals mean, and their responses can be positively reinforced through treats, toys, praise, or pats.

4. Combine Multiple Training Methods for the Desired Effect

There are five training methods that can help your puppy become the best dog possible. Relying on one method alone may only result in frustration. In addition, if the puppy only learns with the use of an e-collar, it may not know what to do when they are not wearing it. However, combining multiple training methods will help produce the desired effect, leaving your precious pooch well-trained and ready for whatever situation comes their way.

Puppy training can be challenging and rewarding. Having a positive attitude, using beeps and vibrations on your shock collar for your puppy when possible, employing the use of repetition, and combining more than one training method can make puppy training much more productive.

Conclusion

Learning how to train a puppy when they are young is vital, and some owners can teach their six-week-old fur baby simple tricks. When they are older and ready, a shock collar for a puppy will enhance training. It is important to remember that the purpose of e-collars is effective communication, which is why INVIROX products also utilize beep and vibration modes for gentle effects. We also recommend combining training methods to help set your pup up for success!

I really like| this collar and never even have to go past the beep . That immediately makes him STOP what he is doing wrong and he waits for the instruction and reassurance he needs. It DOES make a difference how you use it with the actions undesired. Just have to be specific and never have it in your pocket unlocked.

My dog weighs 8.5 lbs., is that to little to use a shock collar?
