How To Solve Dogs Digging

There are many different problems associated with digging in dogs, but digging is also one of their natural instincts, which is difficult to fix or completely remove from them. Almost all dogs enjoy digging at one time or another.

Instead of stopping them from doing so, redirect them away from inappropriate digging places to where digging is safe and acceptable.

Dogs digging

Digging occurs for a variety of reasons and determining the cause of digging along with what the dog hopes to accomplish by digging is the first step toward resolving the problem.

  1. Occasionally, dogs do this to get your attention or because they are bored. These dogs need more exercise and playtime.
  2. Dogs dig to lie in the cooler dirt below or to hide from the rain or wind. Providing your dog with a dog house can reduce the amount of time your dog spends outdoors and digging.
  3. Burrowing prey is often the reason dogs do this. Take care of the prey if it is the cause.
  4. Also, some dogs will dig under fences to get out. Access to fences should be restricted, or the ground beneath the fences should be strengthened.
